MTR Angling is a fly-fishing guide service based out of the Tillamook Bay area of the Oregon Coast. We specialize in fishing for Winter Steelhead with spey rods. These runs happen from December to April. The North Coast is home to multiple rivers that are a joy to fish with a spey rod, and depending on the day, can hold world class fish.
We specialize in winter steelhead. By fishing in such close proximity to the salt water of the Pacific, there is always a chance of finding a steelhead that just entered the river the night before, if not the morning of the trip. Steelhead in general possess world renowned power, but these chrome bright fish are pretty special.
North Coast Day Trips
There are five separate rivers that flow into Tillamook Bay, as well as the Nestucca, and Nehalem watersheds that are within striking distance. This gives us many options for a day float. We run day trips on the North Coast from December 1st up to the first week of April. All necessary tackle and rods can be provided, as well as a shore lunch. We always aim for the easiest logistical situation possible for the trip and ensure a pre trip phone call to discuss details.
Rates are $500 for a single angler and $550 for two anglers. $100 deposit to hold the day.
Steelhead Fiesta
Come fishing with us and have your lodging and food planned out with our all-inclusive rental lodge program. Let chef Ryan Milton prepare you a five-star meal while you swing your last run of the day, as you come back to a luxurious lodge to unwind before another day of searching for Steele. Rates are $3,000 per angler*, max four anglers per week.

Skagit River
Renowned by some as "The River" of the west, come join MTR Angling on the Skagit River. We are taking day float trips based out of Rockport, WA. This river is only open on a year-to-year basis as it is a staple of steelhead recovery on the west coast. The Skagit is a large river for big rods, big casts, and big fish. The Skagit river valley also happens to be one of the most scenic places along the west coast. Same as our North Coast trips, all necessary tackle and rods can be provided as well as lunch.
Rates are $500 for a single angler and $550 for two anglers. $100 deposit to hold the day.

Weather and river conditions can be a factor in scheduling. We do catch fish in high water, but there is a limit. We are usually able to fit blow out reschedules in later in that season, if not the next season.

Steelhead fishing in general is a pretty simple task in our opinion. The catching part can be a very tall order at times. It can be an even taller order swinging flies. I pride myself on offering a laid back program where a beginner is going to learn a lot, and an expert can fine tune their skills. Regardless if you get em' or not, it will be an awesome day in likely water. Any other guide associated with us will also share that same attitude.
There are arguably more "effective" ways to fish for winter steelhead than swinging flies with a spey rod. We just think it is the coolest way, and in our minds, it is the only way. We have a prevalence of awesome wild fish in the rivers we are lucky enough to fish, and we believe that swinging flies is the way to find the right fish. Plus tightline grabs from winter steelhead have changed lives. This is something that MTR Angling wants anybody who comes out with us to experience.

Tiffany and I officially started MTR Angling in 2022. I grew up on the eastside of Oregon some of my favorite memories from when I was a kid were the times me and my family spent on the coast. So after spending about seven winters in Montana, we decided we were sick of snow. I had a pretty good idea of where I wanted to head to, thankfully Tiff wasn't hard to convince. We love the weather, the beach, and of course the fish.
I started guiding in Northwest Montana before making my way up to Alaska to work for Royal Wolf Lodge just outside of Katmai National Park. I also guide for Speywater Lodge in Troy, Oregon during the fall before we make our way to the coast.
Tiffany has a masters degree in accounting from Montana State University and works remotely as an auditor for a Montana based accounting firm, and is obviously the one who keeps the ship afloat.
