Steelhead fishing in general is a pretty simple task in our opinion. The catching part can be a very tall order at times. It can be an even taller order swinging flies. I pride myself on offering a laid-back program where a beginner is going to learn a lot, and an expert can fine tune their skills. Regardless of if you get em' or not, it will be an awesome day in likely water. Any other guide associated with us will also share that same attitude.
There are arguably more "effective" ways to fish for winter steelhead than swinging flies with a spey rod, but we just think it is the coolest way. In our minds at MTR Angling, it is the only way. We have a prevalence of awesome wild fish in the rivers we are lucky enough to fish, and we believe that swinging flies is the way to find the right fish. Plus tightline grabs from winter steelhead have changed lives. This is something that MTR Angling wants anybody who comes out with us to experience.
